NO FIGHT IS TOO BIG.

Thank you for joining us in Steve's fight against ALS.

Steve DiGiuseppe is one of the good guys. You know him or you want to know him. He does the right things for the right reasons. Steve likes sports and he will watch the game with you. Steve doesn’t take shortcuts. He doesn’t complain. He is quick-witted, caring, and looks on the bright side. Steve is a family man. Steve is 33 years old and a lifelong resident of Danvers, Massachusetts, a small town on route 128, about 20 miles north of Fenway Park. He graduated from St. John’s Prep in 2009 and then George Washington University in 2013 with a degree in Finance.

In the Spring of 2015, two old friends grabbed a couple of beers to catch up on life post-college.

In 2018 they moved into their first apartment together overlooking Fenway Park, where they got engaged on the field just a few months later on a chilly December day.

Ali is a pediatric nurse who graduated from Quinnipiac University in 2014. Ali was always going to be a pediatric nurse. She spent her childhood helping to take care of her severely disabled older brother, Nicholas, who died in 2010, leaving a hole in her family’s heart that was partially filled by the gift of Steve and Ali’s love.

On August 1, 2020, Steve married Ali Rose Colarusso in an outdoor ceremony on a windy but picturesque pandemic day overlooking Boston Harbor. On that day, her story became his story, and his story became her story.

Steve and Ali bought their "forever home" in early 2021 and began the business of raising a family.

On October 7, 2021, Steve and Ali welcomed their daughter, Isla.

On April 10, 2023, their son, Nico, was born.

While Ali stayed home with their 2 kids under 2, Steve advanced at work. He helped around the house. He helped his parents and his in-laws and his friends on the weekends.

In the Summer of 2023, Steve noticed a weakness in his right hand and arm. He ignored it at first-- there were babies to take care of and Steve is not a complainer. After a while he told Ali, and they got some tests done.

In September of 2023, Steve was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). ALS is a rapidly progressing neurological disease with an average life expectancy of 2–5 years.

There is no cure.

Steve and Ali are now in a fight. It is both a medical fight and a human fight, for themselves, for their children Isla and Nico, and for the future of their family.

The fight is not easy, or pretty, or cheap. There are direct medical care and indirect medical expenses, and they are only just beginning. Soon, there will be loss of income. There will be a need to outfit their forever home for the inevitable disabilities and to ready that home for 24-hour care. There will be a need for breaks from the fight, and for the expense of days that will be just for the kids.

They need our help.

Donations are wonderful, but just as wonderful is sharing this note with everyone you know. Not just to help them with the incalculable financial burdens this fight will require, but to help build a community for Steve and Ali, and to help raise awareness about this terrible disease.
